You said you loved me completely,
and we started to meet discreetly.
You said your love was unconditional,
and our romance was not transitional.
Oh never had I seen a lady so wooed,
what else could I possibly have construe d?
Except the facts that your will was resolute
and that your love for me was absolute.
There were days when your work kept you away,
but you would always send me a beautiful bouquet.
Then the anguish of weekend business excursions,
leaving me to my own lonesome diversions.
But then there would be a glorious reunion.
and between us there would be tender communion.
You would hold me and your hands would caress,
and then my body you would lovingly possess.
You would hold me and talk of when we would wed
and what the unfolding years held for us ahead.
You talked of the children that you wanted to sire,
and you spoke of our lives together with feverish desire.
We had set a date for our wedding day,
and oh how we planned such a lovely soiree.
Our future lay ahead with unbridled potential,
the details were merely inconsequential.
You went back to work leaving me to my bliss,
crossing the road you turned and blew me a kiss.
I saw the car coming from the corner of my eye
my heart stopped then I let out a heart wrenching cry.
You turned your head as if you were confused,
the expression on your face was somewhat bemused.
You never thought the car was any threat,
after all you had a life you hadn’t finished yet.
You stood motionless as the car slammed into you,
and yet still you looked like it couldn’t be true .
I rushed to your side but you were bloody and battered.
I held your head in my lap and nothing else mattered.
Not the cries of strangers, nor the crowd gathered around,
it was just you and me together, lying on the ground.
I kissed your lips and begged you to stay,
you whispered ‘I love you’ then you slipped away.
That day the driver took more than one life,
I was nothing if I was not to be his wife.
We were soul mates now torn apart
I had lost him along with my heart. |
