A new poem titled "I say I am". Yes yes I'm back so get ready and check out this new new.

April 4, 2009

I Say I Am

I say I am continuously misunderstood

By the insecure citizens of denial, the egotistic who sense a threat ahead and the blatantly indignant

Until you shake my offering hand, look into the eyes of never lies and love…

Until a seat has been taken, stories induce exchanging, then most pre-established worries go ghost                 And we connect….

I say I am the youngest of four

The oldest of souls, wiser than most, fragile to those, sharper than a host, a follower of non but one

An observer, learner, wise game being taught I absorb it then hoard it

Often miscategorized, character often jeopardized not by my doings

But by envious white lies that take on forms of all kinds and assumptions that spume misplaced hope and apprehension

But everyone’s going to publicize their opinion

What matters is if I regrettably obey and listen….

I say I am prone to love all until the line of deceit has been crossed

Then I question you…..

Study the terms on front and definitions on the back to grasp you

Peak through your soul, touch a gentle spot in your heart and attempt to learn you

Then respect for the being higher power sewed and seamed takes a place…

The character flaws and the betrayal that will always bind you I forgive

Then we part seas, wide and deep and never look back

Because trust once lost is trust always gone…

I say I am beautiful, not conceited in the least bit, just confident

To the point it frightens me, wakes me out of deep sleeps just to acknowledge it

So I do….

I say I am a “Lyrical Bad Ass” I’ve once heard and I “Rock Too”

So I guess it is possible for a stuttering twenty one year old black woman to become an icon

But definitely an inspiration

So yes, I’m seated tightly and securely on this new journey called “conquering all my way”

What the worlds been shaking in their tennis shoes to chance but I know it will get me somewhere far

I say I am a lover of old school 90s hip-hop and day dream to it

I would love to shake the hand of Dr. Cornell West and take a picture with him

Have a jam session with The Roots and Dwele

Have brunch with Maya and tell her “ Thank You” while I pay the bill…

I say that’s a combination of powerful game from powerful minds I one day hope to acquire

I say I am single, not by default or failure of success but choice

“Why you don’t got a man?” I keep hearing in my good ear

From potential prospects, old flavors discontinued now facing the effects of retirement or nosey family members

I say I am unchained running like a determined dream catcher

So romantic love will come and go until the two can settle on one home

I say I am a realist a believer in all

Not materialistic or greedily centered, I couldn’t be that shallow

A flower child at heart with an attitude of a prophetic thinker, an intellectual willing to live and die for justice, love and hope

A freedom fighter, a fanatic for fairness an extremist of love, respectably noted by Dr. Cornell West

A lover of the 40s and up, the generation that receives me and cultivates my style, the members of my underground crew…

I say I am just me, with a hippie Rasta essence, bestest friends with the flyest 60s children…..(smile)

I say I have a mission that warrants attention and embracing

Either get with it or peace sign with it…you decide…

I say I am petrified as shit but excited as shit too

For putting myself out there, in the wide deep open for the average and above to scrutinize

Taking risks the family doesn’t believe in

So I pretended for some years to be someone who sounded good but it shall never happen again…

I say I am afraid of no one but I

The captain of this one-man ship

The choreographer of this dance

The warden and the dictator

The manpower behind any potential destruction….

I say, I am me and proud to be.
