A woman loses her husband

she is a widow

A man loses his wife

He is a widower

A child loses parents

The child is an orphan

Yet

A parent loses a child

And there is no word.

Pain...Anguish... those are two words I would use.
I have been there. My latest poem, "Empty" is about the feelings women sometimes have when they have lost a child through miscarriage, or...the pain of infertility.

You're so right Liz. There is no word for unending grief.
