The Comforter

A surprise source of comfort.

You say you're very unhappy,
But ask yourself are you really?
Are you sure it's not general apathy,
Or because you're not thinking positively and freely?

If life is really and truly sad,
Let me tell you what's best to do:
Pick up your pencil and writing pad,
And drop me a friendly line or two;

Or better yet just sit riight there,
And read these words of love I write.
Then you'll see that within inner world somewhere,
There's a place where life is ever so bright.

This place is in the hearts of those
who believe in love and companionship.
And in the saying of the Wild Irish Rose
that true happiness is and can only be:

Someone who cares and trusts in you
and makes you feel so young and free;
someone you can love and trust in too
knowing beyond doubt who this person must be.

Who is the one who can do so great
and bestow such wondrous ecstasy?
Why the only one to smash sorrow and hate
and bring you joy is none other than me.

I enjoyed this read very much. I think I caught the metaphor, at least I hope I did. Write on poet.
