* This was written for a lovely sweet soul, who goes by the name of "Black Roses", hence the title of the poem.

A single black rose,
Sprang up from between,
The faded blooms of yesterday-
Amid the red roses,
And silver thorns…
What a beautiful thing it was!
How rare to find it there-
Hidden between the rocks and stones,
So sad to see it there alone…
I marvel at its strength,
How it has weathered the many storms,
Though its lovely petals are tattered and torn,
The beauty still dwells within…
The hidden beauty so deep within,
The treasure it will bring,
To one who has the heart to hold,
Such a delicate flower grown in the cold,
Dark and lovely light of the Hunter’s Moon…
Spring must not come too soon!
I do wish to see it die,
Or its beauty lie
On the harsh ground,
I could not bear the sound,
Of it’s silent weeping,
Its dark blood seeping,
Like silent tears that fall
Down my cheeks in grief
To see such beauty that calls
Me to this hidden sight,
In the dark of the night…
Intoxicating me with its sweet fragrance,
Burning my heart with sad remembrance.
Of all the beauty I have ever seen,
This single rose so pale against the deeper green…
Drawing me to a secret place,
To a place where I’ve never been,
To watch with silent joy,
As a single black rose,
Grows…
