A Special Wall of Feelings T.D. Helfrick
Their bridal album taunted from the dresser-
These two whose love was there, but yet, had waned
The honeymoon was over, as they noticed,
And everyday existence had remained.
They both had lost communication needed,
The way to help each other, by and by
And both had started wond'ring to themselves, who
The other was and also, "Who am I ?"
They lacked ability to tell the other
The way they felt and of their hopes and fears-
Each blamed the other in a way for failing
Unable to release their thoughts and tears.
They never learned acceptance of the other
Nor how to comfort partners in their pain
Instead, they built a special wall of feelings-
On either side of this, each would remain.
She slept, when able, always facing northward
And he slept, when he could sleep, facing south;
She did not talk except of foolish matters,
And nothing of his feelings left his mouth.
For, disillusionment in loving partners,
So unaware of what it takes to please-
Can fill their heads with unimportant nonsense,
And always miss the forest for the trees.
