I wrote this for a friend of mine after he told me his grandson was Autistic. I hope this will reach the eyes of those that may need to know there was a reason God chose you. Don

OUR GIFT © Dear Jesus, may I speak with You today? It's so very hard to talk about I'm not sure what to say. For I know You see our very thoughts before they start to form, and still You let us chart our course, and then You calm the storm. But as I sit here and pray to You, my tears I can’t contain; they started out like morning mist, and now they're driving rain. For this child you touched our lives with; is not like any other, he seems to live in a different world, from his sister or his brother. Please know we're not ungrateful, for what you've blessed us with; You created him, as You wanted him, then gave to us this gift. But he seems so lost and all alone, how do we guide him on his way? will You show us how to help him, maybe tell us what to say? For other kids can be so cruel; they'll tease and mock his ways, and we believe the road he'll walk, to us will seem a maze. But if You would make sure he knows how very much we care, through tears and fears and heartbreak, his mom and dad are there. Then as he grows may we grow too and learn to understand; all things are from the Father, and every step is planned. Don Balsley

Wonderful poem and a strong reminder for all of us. Autism comes from genetic error and does not really come from God, but neverthless, He allows the children to be born (not die in pregnancy) because He knows how to turn around adverse situations into good (Joseph & his brothers). Your poem also reminded me of my playmate years ago who was autistic but we did not know about it and we did not care - we just played with her all day.

Oh I believe we are blessed when special children are given to us from God above. An innocent child who needs care and love. Thank you for sharing.
