Autumn is her name and she personifies the season well. Graphic image by Stephanie Shimerdia. The "haiku" are translated from the French.

Automne 2007 (Haiku)
Autumn 2007 (Haiku)

La lune chancelante
Se cache derrière les nuages
Présage de tempête

The hesitant moon
Hides herself behind the clouds
Portent of the storm

Dans la rue déserte
Le vent joue avec les feuilles
Sous le ciel blafard

In the empty street
The wind plays with fallen leaves
Under the pale sky

Dans le parc désert
Les cris joyeux des enfants
Ne sont qu’un souvenir

An empty playground
The happy cries of children
Just a memory

Là-haut dans le ciel
Des oies volent vers le sud
Présage de l’hiver

Way up in the sky
The wild geese are flying south
Warning of winter

La nuit est tombée
Le vent chuchote des mots
Parmi les grands cèdres

Darkness has fallen
The wind is whispering words
Through the tall cedars

Sous le ciel d’octobre
Les fées de l’automne ont peint
Les feuilles des arbres

Under autumn skies
The fairies of fall have painted
The leaves of the trees

Octobre venu
La pluie tombe sans arrêt
Ces larmes du ciel

October has come
The rain falls incessantly
These tears from heaven

Having learning experiences like these in the Autumn makes me really truly want to know your Autumn feelings? All you say is true, to the extent that Autumn doesn't seem to be so harsh as Winter, which it isn't, but much action is around in autumn also.

It is interesting to see haiku written in French and then in English. Wish I could actually understand French so that I could compare both versions and see if they are similar in translation or not... Stil, the English version is quite nice itself. Thank you for sharing.

The imagery in these verses is exquisite. They reach out and draw the reader into each scene. Your words capture my experience of autumn here in Washington, D.C., where I have returned after 14 years abroad living in the desert. Thank you for encapsulating in this poem my entire experience of the fall. The last line is at once beautiful and touching.

I am your biggest fan and I love the imagery and the magic you bring to your writing. I am always saddened by the change of seasons especially from fall to winter where the beautiful sound of the fall fades into the winter hermit.

Love the feeling I always get from your words.

I sincerely wish I understood the French as well as the English at this moment, Regis, but it's a beautiful enough work for me just in the English. A melancholy write about the beauty that has left causing the tears to fall from heaven. This is a passionate and sensitive poem about how most of us feel when Spring, Summer, and Fall fade into the coldness of winter. Relfections of our lives and its passing.

Yes, beautiful. Here I give you the Spanish words as follows:

La luna vacilante
Se esconde tras las nubes
Augurio de la tempestad

En la calle desierta
El viento juega con hojas caidas
Bajo un cielo palido

Un parque desierto
Los gritos alegres de los ninos
Solamente una memoria

Alla alto en el cielo
Los gansos salvajes estan volando al sur
Una senal de invierno

La oscuridad ha caido
El viento esta susurrando palabras
A travez de los cedros altos

Bajo los cielos de otono
Las hadas de otono han pintado
Las hojas de los arboles

Octubre ha llegado
La lluvia cae sin cesar
Estas lagrimas del cielo.
