A New Angel

My best friend recently passed, and this is the poem I wrote for to read at her memorial service.

A new angel dwells in heaven,
she moved in just today.
I got the dreaded phone call
saying, "Your friend has passed away."

I can't see her face or touch her hand
or tell her not to go.
I didn't get to say, "goodbye,"
or say, "I love you so."

But, I know she still can hear me.
She didn't go far away.
She dwells within my memories
and all my yesterdays.

I'll hold her image in my heart
and remember what I see.
I'll not forget the times we've shared,
My special friend and me!

How you ever got through reading this
outloud at the memorial. So much feeling.

Angels abound among us, caressing our inner soul, knowing us and all too well, that theirs is but a goal. To touch the pain and ease the fears, to calm and soothe they must--for what they see will surely be--just us in clouds of dust. Great write.
