a gut-wrenching recurring nightmare
tears at his soul every night
each episode plays out exactly
as the night before and the night before
and the night before
as a face
slightly out of focus
stares at him
underneath filthy matted hair
bloodshot eyes set against
a backdrop of jaundice
blotchy skin patterns of black
shades of blue
swollen pitted nose
lips full but not sensuous
liverlips enhanced with drool
a shot glass placed on the bar
filled to the brim then some
Beam me up, Scotty
hands grip the bar as
that ghost leans forward
to sip whisky off the top
when that takes hold
he can pick up the shot
when the full shot
kicks senses into gear
he jolts awake
as a face
slightly out of focus
stares at him
underneath filthy matted hair
from the big mirror
behind the bar
enhanced by eerie neon glow
personification of the victim
of a botched embalming
exhumed a year later
itís not a dream after all
Beam me up, Scotty

I like it. I wonder if that Jim Beam guy likes it. I guess we better lay off the whiskey, eh?
