When the Moon came up
it knocked me down
it got bigger and bigger
as it hoisted itself
over the edge of the earth
stumbling to my feet
as it climbed towards eternity
I scrambled backwards
towards the far edge
of the planet
as I was getting ready
to plunge into the Abyss
the bottom of the orb
came into my terrified view
this is not a recurring dream
it is my reality every year
at the time of Harvest Moon
after a shock treatment or two
Iíll snap right out of it
until I start to quiver
with anticipation
at the thought of the next
Harvest Moon when Iíll cringe
willingly under its spotlight

Written almost in the voice of a deer who is dodging bullets where venison is scarce and people are hungry. "Quiver with anticipation" in the eyes of a buck or a doe says "arrow!" In any case, there's a great metaphor here whether it was intended that way or not...that's the neatest thing about poetry...the reader well, Duke.
