Swirling Winds of Emotion

Bring it....

Swirling winds of emotion I feel in the Fall
As those hot days of Summer give way
All the sights and the sounds and the smells of it all
Those brisk mornings and colorful days
But I’m feeling the hours of daylight give way
As the sun slinks away farther South
All the big bucks are clothed in their velvet
And the crows, terns and snow geese call out

But there is one Fall sign for certain
As sure as all other signs too
It descends like a shroud o’er my spirit
When I think of just how I lost you

I need to sit outside and soak up the sun
I can’t pry myself out of this chair
I need to go walk in the sunshine
But I sit here and I just don’t care
As the crows and the terns and the snow geese call out
I sit paralyzed here in my chair
Mired deep in my personal quicksand of doubt
Just hiding scared here in my lair

But there is one Fall sign that batters my soul
Even more than the worst days combined
When I think of just how that I lost you
It’s the reason that I lost my mind

So bring on that Fall sign that shatters my heart
As warm hours of daylight give way
To the cold and the darkness that wraps ‘round my soul
And blocks out Fall’s colored array

Fine delivery, Duke, personal, real and tender,
the sense of pain is strong, the emotions are admirably honest.
