Dedicated to James B. Beam

desperate
whisky talking to me
but no mix
 taste or even
thought of a ditch
gag and retch
thought to myself
hold your horses, hoss
your mentor had a cocktail
or ten in the saloon
 now and then
but he drank ‘er
straight from the bottle
in the utility room
back porch
shed
backyard
ice fishing
rodeo grounds
cruising in his truck
pushing his luck
at work at play
anytime night or day
before AA meetings
after AA meetings
now  i’ve swilled
 more than my share
straight from the jug
in the past
keep thinking next time
might be my last
discretion the better
part of valor
as always i did
the sensible thing
drank right out of the jug
still in the sack
touch of water back
Beam me up, Scottie

A whole lot of country thinking and country liven going on in this poem. I preferred Jim Beam myself, but mixed with something sweet, like 7-Up. Getting drunk is not my thing.

Sounds like a life plan & a good way to keep warm in them cold northern climes...only thing better might be to mix it with some home made brew...e
