For what is reality? It can be whatever you want it to be.... ~ raoul abrasive

It has been a long while since I had visited with old Jim
Too long, but for the life of me, I couldn’t remember why
We chewed the fat in his living room for quite a spell
I had always enjoyed hearing his old stories
For some reason, this visit seemed especially poignant
We reminisced about a long-ago time when his daughter
Susan and I were an item, he couldn’t stand me at the time
But started to warm up to me when Susan and I
Began to slowly drift apart
Then, he and I remained friends for many years
He always had been a bit of an abrupt old fart
He said that he had to go somewhere
He just got up and left before I could react
I quickly got up and went outside but he was gone
His car was nowhere in sight
How could he have disappeared so suddenly?
A terrible sense of foreboding
Swept over me
I turned quickly to find Jim’s wife Mabel standing there
She smiled and greeted me warmly as she always had
I turned again to look for Jim’s car, when I turned back
Mabel was gone; Susan was standing there
I stammered, “Susan, I’m losing it
Didn’t I sing at your Mom’s memorial service?”
She replied softly, before fading away
As if into a
“Of course you did, and Dad’s too”
I jerked awake with a terrible start
It was only a dream
Or was it?

Sometimes, dreams can be very real. They are the source of my short stories. I always loved talking to my elders–great aunts and uncles. They provided me with stories they never wrote and wisdom I could have never gained any other way.

this narrative is sensitive and troubling,
Duke, but it warms the reader, too,
with its direct truths and its open possibilities

i like this a lot

Sounds as if it has something to do with flashbacks but then again you wouldnt know what they are, right, as you never did acid and with regards the other stuff, like Clinton, u never inhaled...sure, just like me...;-)e
