live for the moment
and i don't mean for today
live just for this moment
don't let it slip away
don't worry about the past
for it's never what it seems
what's past could be only
a very ugly dream
don't think about tomorrow
it's not comin' anyway
for by the time it gets here
tomorrow is today

some folks wear the past
like it was a crown of thorns
they beat and flog themselves
curse the day that they were born
don't worry about the past
for it's never what it seems
what's past could be only
a very ugly dream

some folks wake up scared
they can't even face the day
but i am here to tell you
it don't matter anyway
don't worry about the past
and don't fret about today
for the only thing that counts
is just this moment anyway

Carpe Diem has always been my motto. We're only given *THIS* moment. Breathe, taste, touch and revel in it.

What most of us toss about in our minds, you put into words....and put into words SO WELL.

A wonderful insightful poem. Bravo !!!!!!!!!
That second verse I subscribe to wholeheartedly. There should be an eleventh commandment that says "wallow not." Love it.

Good write! Live for the moment indeed, --- so long as someone else doesn't have to clean up the mess after you, so long as your actions are without reproach, so long as your moment doesn't slam a door in someone else's face. It's a wonderful philosophy, but so very hard to live by in the real world... though this IS a very passionate poem well-written!
