Man-eater

She looks slightly Romanic,

Maybe Germanic,

And she’s as selfish as beauty allows,

She’ll cruelly mistreat you

And openly cheat you,

I know because she’s doing it now.

Oh, she’s slim and she’s pretty,

Charming and witty,

She’s everything you could desire,

But friend take the warning,

She’ll be gone by the morning,

With that one you’re playing with fire,

Oh, I know what you’re thinking,

I’m jealous and sinking

So low, telling tales out of turn,

But take my advice

She won’t make a good wife,

If you love her you’re going to get burnt,

She’s a gold-digging go-getter

And that’s how I met her,

In the very same way she met you,

She belonged to another

But we soon became lovers,

That’s how I know that she’ll never be true ,

Oh, she’ll love you awhile,

Be all sweetness and smiles,

But one day she’ll tire and be gone,

Well I thought she’d change,

And I know you’re thinking the same,

But buddy like you, I was wrong,

Because she’s a free spirit,

I know you don’t want to hear it,

But what I’m telling you now is the truth,

You’ll never change her,

Hog-tie or tame her,

That’s been tried by much better than you.

So just bide your time

Because for the moment she’s mine,

Though I’m not sure how long that will last,

But if I could stay with her

I know I’d forgive her,

As I have many times in the past

Because she’s slightly Romanic,

Maybe Germanic,

And something I can’t quite explain,

And I know she’s a cheater,

A total man-eater,

But I wish she could love me again.

Super clever and I love the way you explore chinks in the heart and soul's armor!

My kind of poem. Like a country song, down and dirty, all day long.

I guess this happens in life more than one would be able to imagine. There are some selfish people born to wander and break as many hearts as they can.I don't think they have a conscience...Very nicely penned, Steve!

This makes me remember and old Faron Young song, "Your Time's Coming."
