A Mother's Love

She was a worrisome pup, so full of life,
Nice shoes and textbooks, a special delight.
But time is all seasons and soon brought a change,
Love and Loyalty became the name of her game.
Her love goes to all; her loyalty to one.
She'll protect when she must but would rather have fun.
She's traveled afar and no stranger does meet,
One look in her eyes brings all to her feet.
Time is all seasons; earth's work almost done,
But loves lives forever in the hearts of the ones
Who'll treasure sweet memories and remember the days
When she nuzzled our hands and brought smiles to our faces.
Do dogs have a heaven? This I don't know
But I know if there is, she will sure go.
She'll nip at the heels at the clouds that pass by
And wait for a pat and applause in that sky.
You'll mourn for a while and this should be so;
And sadness will fill every part of your soul.
But if she could speak, I know she would say
That bringing you joy was her goal every day.
She'd remind you of the great love that you gave
And that you did all you could to help her to stay.
She'd thank you for all the good times that she had,
And want memories to warm you, not make you sad.
And when time lets the memories bring smiles and not pain
Then she'll know that her life was not lived in vain.
And when the season of joy overshadows the rest,
Her life becomes Legacy for the one she loves best.
For Robyn, November 9,1999. I love you, Mama

|This poem brings back childhood memories of my dog, Pup.(I wasn't very creative with names.)Pup went to heaven when he was eleven years old, and that's been 40 years ago. I loved him so much. What a tribute to Shawnee!|

|I really liked the message of the poem, but I stumbled a bit on the flow of words. This is the only reason that I scored it an 8 instead of a 9 or 10.|
