In Canada, this is the last weekend before most students and teachers go back to school. Best wishes to all here and everywhere!

Back to School

Summer is ending
As must be the rule.
September is sending
Children back to their school.

Memories of August
With games on the beach,
And fun under sunburst
Only nature can teach.

It's time to gather
Pens, erasers and books;
Though most would rather
Concentrate on their looks.

Today's Labour Day;
Back to school tomorrow.
"When's the next holiday?"
School folks ask with sorrow.

It is time for bed
But sleep will not come.
Thoughts of what lies ahead
Is too much for some:

"I wonder who'll be
My teacher this year.
Will it be Willoughby
Or pretty Miss Goodyear?"

"I hope Neve and I
Are in the same class.
But I know I won't die
As long as I pass."

"I just know that this year
I'll improve in French.
I'll 'get into gear';
Not just 'sit on the bench'".

When sleep comes at last,
Night is almost gone.
The die has been cast;
Nothing stops the dawn.

Your school is all set
To welcome you back.
There's no need to fret;
You're on the right track.

I will read this one to my great grandson, I'm sure he'll get something out of it, he loves to learn. I can relate in that I always wondered if my best friend would be in my same claases, etc. My 2nd oldest grandson, always counts the days from the time he gets out of school to tell me how many days til school starts. I think the kids get bored and really do look forward to another school year.

so cute, I am taking online classes, my friend's kinda get upset with me, for I so no, on going out with me, gotta go home, I say, get my homework done, there's time later to go to social places, I've spent my life enough in them, there's nothing there, no degree, only time wasted, so when I am out fighting crime, you'll still be here, wondering why you didn't do the same, going back to school, it's challenging at my age, should have done it years ago, but the important thing is, now i am doing it, and feel good about it, there's no place like going home and going to school, even though it's on line classes, it's not easy, but it's going to worth it, in the end.

Strange knowing there are SOME countries out there that let kids and grand/parents and friends enjoy some time together. Here in the states, they think August is the prime time to re-attend classes. Fantastic! Makes you want to run out and buy notebook paper and Ticonderogs #2's. For the longest time, depression hit me around Labor Day. Something is wrong, I would think. Oh. 'Everybody' is going back to school. Going to miss the whole thing ! I didn't always enjoy school, but it was such a big part of our lives, wasn't it.

All that said, you are so right about nature. There are people who want us to think that all education takes place at school. How wrong can they get? Personally, I wish the three-month summer vacation would be reinstated. Be better for teachers, as well as students-?

Thank you for sharing this. For all that you are and all that you do and all that you will become, Sir Auffray.
