I Need To....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I Ever
By La Belle Rouge
if i am ever
too busy to listen to another’s pain
i’m too busy
if i ever look down
self-righteously on anyone
i need to look up
if i ever feel
i can’t be wrong about anything
it’s time to remember my mistakes
if i ever think
i know all spiritual truth
consider the false i once embraced
if i ever berate
or carelessly hurt a child
i need to become as a little child
if i ever forget
to be kind and employ gentleness
i need to recall how abuse feels
if i ever
lose patience with those who feel lost
i need to remember i’ve not arrived yet
if i ever
entertain hate in my heart
i should consider i did nothing to earn god’s love
if i ever
harshly judge another’s failures
i need to look in the mirror
if i ever
think i’m better than you
remind me of where i came from
and where i’m going
Funny, a man in town thougt himself to better than most folks.
