Acrostic Wisdom
At a time when I was still young—
Before I set out on the travels of life—
Courting Wisdom was my chief
Desire. I sought her openly in prayer.
Entering the temple, I asked for her, day in, day out.
From first to last, I will continue to seek her company.
Grape blossoms have flowered and their fruit
Has ripened, yet still my heart delights
In her. I have no need of wine to bring me
Joy, for my pleasure lies in Wisdom’s innermost being.
Keenly have I prepared myself to enter her service. My
Love for her knows no bounds.
My spirit rejoices in her sweet presence.
Not for me are either the cares
Or pastimes of ignorant men who
Parade their limited knowledge as “wisdom”,
Quite content to revel in their own foolishness.
Rather will I refresh my mind and
Soul by finding relief for all burdens at Wisdom’s
True fountain of secret treasures. Yes, I will
Uphold and honor Wisdom all my days, for that
Virtue of veneration brings the richest reward
