A poem for the caregivers who selflessly offer support to those who need assistance the most.

Lord, bless me this morning and each one I rise
With a wealth of strength; please bring hope to my eyes
Be sure Iím well-grounded for those in my care
Even if the challenge becomes much to bear
Should this day bring hardship, please help me to find
A beautiful memory for some peace of mind
Please shower my life with compassion and love
As I take my cues from your guidance, above.

Lord, bless me this morning, as I make my way
Please give me the laughter to warm someoneís day
Be sure I am steady, be sure I am wise
Be sure I am ready, should struggles arise
If I shed a tear, Lord, I pray you will see
Iím making the most of the chores asked of me
As I strive to put othersí needs Ďfore my own
Always stand beside me, so Iím not alone.

Lord, bless me this morning and each one I live
So Iíll remain focused on the care I give
Be sure Iím afforded the best tools allowed
To serve othersí needs and in turn, make them proud
Please look down upon me and offer a smile
So, Iíll always know that my job is worthwhile
Let me treat each patient and illness the same Ė
As worthy as this prayer, Iíve asked in Your Name.

Jill,

I worked in a nursing home for 8 years and I was a private sitter for 6 years. I understand the joys and the trials of working with the elderly. God bless you Jill for your compassionate and giving heart.

Love and blessings,
+Linda

Beautiful, thoughtful and compassionate. I must share this with my daughter, too. She and her husband have been faithful caregivers in a very stressful situation, and I think your poem will bless her.

"If I shed a tear, Lord, I pray you will see Iím making the most of the chores asked of me" is the part that stopped me cold in my tracks. I too am a caregiver and feel what you wrote echoed my sentiments, except the line about treating all patients the same. I believe, like children you have to love them and care for them as individuals, not just as cases. Perhaps what you meant to imply was that everyone deserves to be treated well no matter what. Everyone in your care should receive at least a minimum standard of care, with that I agree. I just wanted to point out that people are more than the sum of their circumstances, and should be treated according to their own merit and needs. --- Rockie

This is an inspirational prayer for EVERYONE! It is so important to ask for His guidance in all we do, especially those who have chosen to care for others. From my heart, "Thank YOU!" for this inspirational write.

God bless you. Kathy

A caregiver has one of the (potentially)most challenging and important jobs in the world. This prayer can certainly be held close to many hearts--those who receive care as well as give it. Thank you for sharing this.
