Today I found the patchwork
quilt, grandma, made for me
It had been tucked away
with special memories.

While holding it, warm
thoughts came back to me,
as I remembered when she
made it with vivid clairity

I could see her sititng in her
wooden rocking chair,
sewing on the porch in the
fresh country air

Her hands were worn and calloused,
as she gently stitched away in a
special rhythm, while seams
were bound each day

She joined the many colors,
pastels and bold azures,
working diligently with
fingers quick and sure

The special qiult was made
with dignity and pride
As I hold it now, I feel
the love she stitched inside

I'll always remember grandma,
the love she shared with me
and I'll treasure the quilt she
made, for all eternity

Stories and poems about "grandma" are the warmest ones there are. Your poem is beautiful and brings back many memories. As a child we didn't know what a blanket was. The only thing we had to use was those wonderful patchwork quilts. I recall neighboring ladies would spread their time between one household and another, as they sewed quilts as needed on a frame that hung from the ceiling. (In those days every household had one of those quilt frames it seemed.)

Very lovely, MaryGrace. My dear old grandmother also made a quilt for me, and today, it's one of my greatest treasures.
