You may recall my whiny little poem written last June describing the US Postal Service’s abysmal progress in replacing our damaged community mailbox. Well, last Friday I got a glimpse of flapping wings. A new Mailbox on the driveway!! It only took 89 days to install. Saturday morning I went to the Post Office to retrieve my key. No supervisor. Monday Eileen tried. No supervisor – out on routes allegedly testing keys. Today – don’t know yet. Jeez, I’m on pins and needles.

I’ve been told that pigs can fly

It’s not often that they do

I almost got delirious

When on my drive they flew

A shiny box had been installed

I thought I’d get my mail

But without a key ‘twas hopeless

And lousy service did prevail

And what about those flying oinks

I guess I’ve been forsaken

It appears to me their glide path

Produced a heaping pile of bacon

So when life hands you a lemon

It’s really plain to see

Enjoy a glass of lemonade

To wash down that BLT

Government workers - ya gotta love 'em! I've got a tiny pot hole on my street, and I've been watching 'the repair' with utter fascination. For the last three days, several trucks pull up each morning with about five guys in them; they poke around a little bit at the pot hole; then they all enjoy a nice leasurely lunch; and then leave. I'm betting this 'repair' is gonna take more than a week.
