“A man may smile and bid you hail,

Yet wish you to the devil;

But when a dog wags his tail,

You know he's on the level.”

Author Unknown

It’s been three weeks since I found him

Lying there, in his hell, on that highway

He has now had surgery on his broken leg

And his health is slowly improving each day

Each time that I would visit him at the hospital

He would shower me with kisses and tail wags

Dogs never try to hide their emotions like we do

It is fairly easy to see when they are happy or sad

Even though his leg is bandaged, and he wears a cone

He does not complain, or curse, or so very rudely shout

He and I went for a little walk around the animal hospital

And he was extremely appreciative, just to be alive and out

And soon, he hobbled over to my old truck in the parking lot

He looked at me, as if he hoped we were now going for a spin

So I opened the door, and he eagerly hobbled onto the back seat

As we drove off, he rejoiced in the open window, face in the wind

Highway’s recovery will now take another four to six difficult weeks

But he’s not complaining, he’s just glad to be alive and on the mend

Canines always teach me, to accept whatever life has in store for us

And until I die, I hope that these lessons from canines will never end

“The more one gets to know of men,

The more one values dogs.”

Yes, dogs are very predictable creatures, unlike their human counterparts. Thanks for sharing Highway's recovery with us.

You've brought so many memories flooding back from over many years that my head is spinning...I am almost unable to come up with mere words to express my admiration for your sentiments and the artistic way in which you expressed them.

Thank you Mr. Ed,

You taught us humans once again we can learn a lot from the more advanced species. LOVED the poem!

God Bless you for all that you do!

As well you should, for truth be told, lesson such as these will not be taken up by humans. Somehow we've evolved into protective and emotionless prisons, releasing sentient abilities far too often by mind-altering drugs. Another "simple complexity" as I attempted to see in another light this morning for my posting.

He is so cute, and obviously happy while he recovers :) It is angels like yourself Mr. Ed that are their savior. I am an animal rescuer as you know and are always there to help all of the creatures that we are blessed with.

It brings me pure joy each time I have read and seen something you and your fellow men have done for them. Keep awareness that all may see, not only the poets and readers here, but those who happen upon this site to see all your good works.

Blessings, Love, and Light

Thankfully there are living Angels among all the evility of people's cruelty...the truth is bottom line too, I know I look into any animals eyes (not just my 4 fur babies) and the love is so deep.
...and too in that quote it is terrible people spawn those thoughts about wishing one to the devil-but they do & for some reason find nothing wrong with their vile thoughts or tongues of hatred which merely poisons their own Emotional Wealth & inner peace

Love & Fur Babies Forever!!
