First Grade is learning to write a Cinquain, I have adapted the form a little to meet our particular capabilities.

A Cinquain is a 5 line poem
Line 1 is a one word or 2 syllable title
Line 2 is a 2 word, or 4 syllable phrase to describe the title
Line 3 is a 3 word phrase or 6 syllables describing action relating to the title
Line 4 is a 4 word phrase or 8 syllables describing feelings relating to the title
Line 5 is one word or 2 syllables referring back to the title

Again, it's not just word choice
but the range of vocabulary and what
these young poets can do with words that's so
impressive and meaningful.

I very much liked student 4 because of the happy animals idea. And I also liked number 8 because of the warm freedom on the grass idea. And all the students should be congratulated for making such nice poems with the very stick rules of this type of poetry. Congratulations to all.
