Fighting Your Demons

Acrimony comes to the top, cementing itself inside you
Gaining access to your deepest, most carefully hidden thoughts
It unearths previously forgotten missteps
Affecting the way you choose to think as the pain becomes your all
Your eyes leaking crimson anguish, flowing dementedly toward your chin
You thought you could control the beast of aloneness
By locking it inside where no one goes
How could you have known demons have keys to those special places
Sent to devastate you from the fires of Hades
Your innerself is no novice when it comes to pain
And pain's assorted cousins, agony, misery and all the rest
You know where to go, and how to get there
Although you know of this place it is a part of yourself
Whose porch you've not assailed yourself, but now is the time
To stagger into this world within a world inside your mind
Hopefully tranquility can conquer these unbalanced and pain-wrought
Mental pictures which drill deep into your deepest being
Rage to Ravage is unleashed by you, you need its strength
To fight your demons, to get to the porch, to unlock the door
You're racing against the shadowy evil within
They're reaching out to you, consuming you their goal
You're on the porch, you've the key to unlock the door
You scream a scream never heard by the living
When you realize the door to safety
Has been cemented up

We all have 'em...and I'll bet more than a few of us have come up against that brick wall over our lifetimes too! Great writing, my friend!!!!

You continue to find your way into my "....world within a world" with each of your posts.... or could it be you are simply leading me there?

Thanks Dick.

Interesting your choice of 2nd person, both singular and plural to make your premise universal. Yes, demons are part of all sentient beings. Tragic how some think it only supernatural. Provocative and irresistible contemplation.

Jerry...
such anguish in this piece
However, what incredible talent to describe so exquisitely with such feeling what I am sure many go through.
