He stands slightly askew
with gnarled hand at salute.
As his flag is lowered
before the sun hides away.

Walking far no longer
the damage done years past.
In the back by a cong's
A k fortyseven.

Comrades living fewer
with every passing year.
It has always been thus
war done men forgotten.

We honor them rarely
soley one day each year.
Far to little for those
who gave so much freely.

Stand up show them you care
these are our true heros.
On foriegn war torn shores
they still guard our freedom.

Budd, there are so many adjectives that come to mind for this poem but somehow they are mere offerings compared to the impact this makes on your readers....

Budd: Today, in the mail I received my brother's wings. It was 44 years ago that he earned them. Today, I'm just trying to piece it all together. I was only 15 when he was declared MIA. I miss him. He will be brought home. Sooner than later, I have hope. Thank you for this poem. And, thank you for your service for our freedom.

God Bless You,
Deborah

I forever salute them Budd, my late husband was one who died protecting us and others. Freedom!

Beautiful write and I hope it reaches those who have not known the horrors of war and it's mental destruction.
