|Oh, Jerry! I am so very sorry this happened to you. But, you are a very talented poet and you will write 59 other poems to replace the ones you lost... and we will enjoy each and every one of them. Please let us know if you are able to retrieve them and if so, we will rejoice in your finding them! Much luck in this endeavor!!

|Sometimes we get an impulse that is totally self-destructive. As far as poems are concerned, the only ones I lost are the ones I wrote on paper in my misconstrued youth and either sent off or gave to someone. As for my current poems, I write them on this computer, edit them on another computer, and post them to two websites. With all those copies lying around, it's hard to lose any.
What I hate most is writing a chapter in my book and forgetting to save it until I've overrun the memory or some stupid thing and then have to rewrite it based on memory. Oh shit, I hate that.

|Ouch. If they weren't written on the cd, but just copied to it then check your windows recyle bin. If you didn't empty it, they may be there. You might consider printing a hard copy of future poems. Cheap insurance. Patrick|

Try what Jude wrote below, everything is still out there somewhere, I feel like you will be able to retrieve them once again...Think positive and if for some reason they are lost forever, then look at it like they were not suppose to be seen by anyone other than you. I have lost a few poems myself here on the den. My computer timed out before I could hit the publish button..I spontaneously write most of the time so I never have a copy until after I publish on the den..I am crazier than you...lol
Much luck and love,

|OH CRAP!!! I'd be so pissed I wouldn't be able to talk about it for days....
This might be closing the barn door a little too late, but every month on the first, I save all my files to a little flash drive. That way, I'm never in danger of losing more than one months worth of my ramblings. Might be a good habit for you to cultivate.
Good luck in your efforts to retrieve them.... Dick

|always save on alternate sources like a flash drive besides CD ... anyway, try the search function in your computer with the CD in the drive ... i'm not sure which version OS you have by click the MS logo on the right and search the names of the poems or fragments of words within the poem ... good luck ...|

|I agree with those comments made that retrieval may still be possible, and I empathize with that seizure-level squeeze of shock zapping the cardiac system in its entirety, including all 25,000 sweat glands and trachea constriction. With sand and ice sculpture, the media is meant to melt as part of the ache of that art form -- the temporariness enhances the awe; but with writing, the art and beauty of chosen words are created to last longer than the materials upon which they are displayed. ~~ Diana|

|I hear you, Jerry. What a S**t of a thing to happen!
It's what we call 'Murphy's Law' ...and Murphy is a sadistic little B*st*rd, who sits just out of reach, laughing at our futile attempts to rectify the chaos he has caused.
Probably a silly question but... Are they not in the recycle bin?

|I would be crushed! I know some by heart, others I just wrote like mad and didn't take the time to memorize them :( Oh Jerry I am so sorry! I am working on a book too. The psychology of Man, what is normal?
I hope some way they can be recovered, sometimes I know if taken to a computer shop on your hard drive they have a way to recover them.

that is terrible, I am not a computer geek by any measure but surly there will be some way to retrieve them.
