Getting Lost in the Woods on a Wintry Day

With my deepest apologies to Robert Frost . . .

These woods have made myself be lost,
And all around me there is frost.
I stop and listen but do not hear,
I believe I have disappeared.

I was just out for a quick stroll,
Although the weather is quite cold.
Oh, between the woods and my house,
I fear I am lost as a mouse.

Though lost, the woods they speak to me,
And they have told me I am free.
There is a sigh through oak and pine,
Says I don't have to toe the line.

These woods are mine to keep and hold,
And if I may Sir, be so bold,
I'll go on my way, lightly trod,
Though lost I smile, you find that odd.

The snow has started falling now,
Up to my knees, ahead I plough.
My step is straight, no longer lost,
I have good cheer I shall defrost.

There is much wisdom in the trees, they are also the soldiers in life that protect us Jerry. For now "My step is straight, no longer lost,"

This one touches my soul, lovely Jerry

You have defrosted Robert! Perhaps, defrocked him? I love that line, “lost as a mouse.” As though mice go around their daily rounds lost most of the time.

Determination is a virtue, and you and nature seem to understand that perfectly. Don't forget your mittens.

Jerry, I have a book titled EARLY FROST on my desk at this very moment and in my estimation, though he is likely more widely known and read, your poetry suffers not by comparison.

Much enjoyed, Dick
