Our Secrets

I'll keep our secrets, never fear,
What we have said and done this year;
Not one shall see in light of day
Our corrupt repast; not to pray,
My lips are closed, they will not speak,
Even God above turns His cheek.
And Cupid's arrows found their place,
I'll not sigh to him our embrace.
What wonders we've had in our lair,
Giving and taking on a dare.
No one will know, can never know,
Unless my spirit leaves its flow,
If there's a question how I died,
Autopsy ordered at high tide,
And when they cut me say a prayer,
For on my heart your picture there.

Each of us have secrets that we often take to our deaths for various reasons...some for love. You did this well Jerry.

Some secrets, we so wish, would never have to remain secret. How wonderful for what is in our hearts and minds to be open for all to see so our lives may go forward.

For a guy who usually abhors rhyming poetry, this was a gem. There was just enough syncopation, enough tilt to the balance, that made the concluding line sing. Well done.

Those last four lines could well stand alone; and they are the lines that will make readers want them for their own. How much do I owe you? ~~ Diana

In the days of technology and so I've heard, it's gone from county socials to internet meeting! How things have changed eh? Our world has advanced so much. What has happened to the romance of letters sent to soldiers, or a chance meeting in a park, or a gentle bump in a supermarket. Or the days when a lady dropped her kerchief and the gentlemen of her attention picks it up. Technology... although wonderful for those who are home bound, I am such an old fashioned soul I'll be that skeleton of a woman waiting on the park bench waiting for the good man to come along (laughing).

You've done it again Jerry, your mind is ever working to put out pieces of art in your writing.

Love and Light
