distant is the voice
that gives substance to my essence

is it in a fogbank of insecurities
for an unusual season

or have I left it dead or dying
in the mean streets of yesteryear

I think that voice calls from the grave
and laughs and laughs and . . .

what graveyard must I go to
to conjure up that voice
that gives substance to my essence

You are connected in many ways to this distant voice...just let yourself absorb it all, you won't have to go anywhere...

Nice work as always,

It's funny that when I'm on a "low" I go to the cemetery and tend to the family's plants. I like this poem a lot!

Love ya!

A very interesting thought here which can lead to many twist and turns. Clever wording. I really like 'fogbank of insecurities'... Great line

Thank you Jerry

Distant or close by, voices of unknown origin can be troubling. Less seriously, however perhaps we should determine just what that substance is,,,, if someone is going to be getting substance all over my essence, I'd surely want to know.....

(I woke up in a playful mood this morning and now you've gone and gotten all serious on me Jerry....)

Nice one. Dick

Graveyard? Might the voice be within, just playing "Echo" tag with you?

"Distance is the voice
that gives substance to my essence"

What profound words Jerry, but nay not insecurities perhaps an awakening for a time, a view of what was and how now things are for the wonderful soul you are. It laughs because it knows you have won! It is the laughter of those that knew you would beat everything in life and knew how you would stand tall. :)

You are a marvelous writer and give us so many beautifully written words to think upon. Something that makes us all question ourselves and look to ourselves. Whether the message is understood correctly or not.

Lovely, you make my every morning with substance that touches my essence.

Love and Light
Lily
