There's no place like home–and family. Except for cousins who I never see, and my helpers that I see weekly, I'm 1000 miles from my nearest family member. The fact that travel is difficult for me means that I can no longer drop in on my family after a long drive on interstates going home. Still, I remember the times I did and the good times we had, including fireworks on the lake. For now I take each holiday for what it is, a time to reflect on those days past, and incorporate them into my writing like you just did.

Lovely and loving words, my far northern friend. Don't know if I told you, but Bonnie and I were married on 6/27 and had just that: Fifty-five wonderful family and friends about us as we celebrated our wedding.
