Sometimes nothing is wrong; and yet everything is.

At the Corner of Stay and Go

Karen Hecht Springer

July 21, 2012

I had it all mapped out, once.

I’d go to a great school, specializing in psychology.

I’d figure out the world and the people in it.

I’d make Mother Earth a better place; be a voice for the troubled.

I thought I knew it all. Oh, I was so sure.

One day, along the way, someone took from my soul.

Just a piece; and it’s still missing.

Bit by bit the sinner grew thorny and toughened, sprouted

Like a vine from the ashes.

But who am I? What am I?

The voice, the one that says “Do what you truly want to do,”

Washes over me like a calm roll of ocean frothing onto shore,

Lapping, lapping at my feet, whispering of possibilities.

Flashes of past regret come unbidden.

But who am I? What am I?

I find myself

Walking down Wits’ End,

Standing at the corner of Stay and Go.

The theme that you express through your verses here is a universal and timeless one, Karen. Well done in sharing. Thank you. Love and best wishes to you,

There is an inchoate sense of stasis-go sis about this one... and I really enjoyed it, especially the way you concretize your abstractions... I haven't read you before, but I'll return to read more...

Peace

Karen,
Very good poem and one I can relate too. I also had visions of making the world a better place, be a voice for the troubled. Alot of my poems are giving the troubles a voice. So I have accomplished that in some degree but alot of regrets on other things.

Blessings,
+Linda

A very revealing walk through life. For your sake, I hope it's not you. But it sure reads like a lot of folks. Unfortunately there is no stopping. We have to forge on, regardless.

THIS is very, very good. I like your honest appraisal (even if this is not a truism) of life and what it can do to/for us. And you are correct, losing only a tiny piece of our soul is enough to destroy everything we thought we knew. I love this poem.
