So, I ask, why God?

I am not a person of great belief

nor am I a person of great disbelief.

I do not believe that God has guided me

Nor do I believe that God has misguided me.

There well may be a superior entity that

guides our lives.

However,

considering the horrors

that we…

considering the horrors

our fellow human beings face daily

if there is a superior entity

then I would say he, she or it

is not doing a very good job.

If God answers your prayer

for love,

for health,

for success,

then possibly the answer to your prayers

is not to be found within God

but within yourself for the effort you put forth

to find love,

to do what must be done

to retain health,

to put forth the effort

to find success.

For if you find love

you may thank God.

However ,

sadly,

if you lose love,

do you then blame God?

Without question

I speak only of and for myself

for I know there are many here of strong

belief and faith

and to you I honor that which you believe.

But for me,

what good has happened in my life,

what bad has happened in my life,

the love I have found,

the love I have lost,

the success at what "I must do" to sustain myself, or…

the lack of success at what "I do not do" to sustain myself

is to be found only within myself

and is only of my own responsibility.

and not that of a God

that I do not necessarily believe in

nor that of a God

that I do not necessarily not believe in.

For…

I do not believe that God has guided me

Nor do I believe that God has misguided me.

So, I ask why God?

Well done. In the Old testament God spoke regularly. But recently I think God, Allah, Messiah call him whatever you wish, well, he aint switched on or able to speak to us. Faith just does not add up to the Old Testament diologues. So Mark, don't bother to ask God. He just aint there. Sad but true.

Why NOT, God? :)

I love the lines, 'I do not believe that God has guided me/Nor do I believe that God has misguided me.' I believe in Him, that He does answer prayer, but have a few questions for Him as well. As to why children suffer or are born disabled. Well done, Mark. It's been far too long since I've stopped in -- forgive me?

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I believe you express the common thinking of all humans, until each one encounters the Creator in the person of Jesus Christ. People instinctively sense there is a God, but since we are all born into this life in a state of alienation from Him, we naturally do not trust Him, nor do we love Him. God is the most misunderstood Being who exists, but He has communicated to the entire human race via a Nation He literally designed in order to do that; for the express purpose of revealing to us clearly who He is. Like children who have offended a parent, all of us cover our ears and shout in order to not acknowledge Him. Your poem expresses very clearly the default bent of the human spirit until it turns to and embraces the Creator, finally confessing gratitude to Him. Great job Mark.

Spirituality is a very personal thing, my friend...I do believe in God and I do pray...but I don't believe in organized relgion...it's simply big business....I was born and raised Catholic....I deeply believe in the earth, and nature...in the forest or by the sea...that's my church.....geez...guess I got a little long-winded ...giggle...

Your poetry

It grabbed me

I couldn’t let it go

A Second look

And then a Third

Still

I had to read again

Your ‘honor’

Well,

It moved me

Yet

If God came down

Once again

With miracles abound

Would there still be

Doubting

As there was back than

Your poetry

It asks

Why God?

I’ll try to do my best

To make my reasons clear

I cannot see

The embryo

Grow into a child

Nor can I look

Up to the heavens

And not see

God in all

Born into

His image

Meaning

We are free to chose

We are not

Just robot toys

Moving to His will

And if we chose

To follow

A path that’s laid out clear

Someday we will reign with Him

In a place

So full of love

Our mortal minds can't fathom

I’ve wondered too

About what you said

With tear-blinding eyes

How can He

Turn His back on us

And watch this pain and anguish

Yet

Our world

A place of heartache

Was not where it all began

And

By faith

I know

Someday

He will show us

WHY!

Well said,Mark. I beleive that God gives each of us free will to do good or to do evil. So I am willing to take some of the credit for the good things I do...but..all of the blame for the bad things I've done.
