Love Your Enemies

I'm trying to come out of writer's cramp. This is the first poem since New Year's Eve. It's heavy on social justice.

Jesus said to love our enemies
That’s surely not what he meant
He must not have included
Those we resent

He surely didn’t mean
Those with whom we disagree
Who have beliefs
Different than we

Those who do their reading
From a different book
And dress in a way
We don’t think they should look

Whose name for God is different
And their skin as well
He must approve if we
Wish them all to hell

Though he spoke of peace
And also against war
I’m sure he approved it
When we settle the score

The poor and the homeless
He must also exclude
They are all trouble makers
And it’s OK to treat them rude

He must approve using scripture
To set up factions
And quote those words
To justify our actions.

I do love my enemies, but sometimes it is so hard to! I am grappling with this on several fronts, and sometimes what I think is not very Christian like. God must be so disappointed in me at times when I "think ugly"! Just keep me in your prayers; I really can use 'em!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

Excellent write!

Selectivity seems to fall everywhere, religion, politics, even within the family core.
Then again, the same Jesus said that His Father could destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days, was he being selective then?
Or when he said those words about the camel and the needle's eye?
God gave us that penchant for selectivity, but also the good sense how to use it.

Quite powerfully penned, my friend. It's always amazed me how so many so called 'Christians' selectively decide which of Christ's teachings they choose to follow, and completely ignore the rest, yet consider themselves to be truly devout followers.

Excellent way ot showing how the human mind turns what Creator's plan is into just the opposite to suit our own behavior! Superbly done Larry!
