Without this playing with fantasy no creative work has ever yet come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable.
~Carl Jung~

 Desert of Destiny

Looking out upon the dry plains of thirst

Winds of decision blowing the tumbleweeds of life

Though no-one knows what goes on inside

There is nothing I can do

Sands of time sift across my feet

And the scorpion of anguish runs swiftly by

In search of the next victim with venom

Within the walls of turmoil

The mirage cool waters of truth

On the horizons of hope

Wavering temptations of desire

Forgetting time and place

Don’t let go

Hovering over the edge of contemplation

And beyond the sea of tranquility

The time we spend together’s gonna fly

Face to face with the moon of knowledge

Here we are on the Desert of Destiny

But there is nothing I can do

To keep from loving you

While standing on the plateau of thought

Avoiding the trees of pride

Reaching out, a breathless kiss

Down the path of intrigue

Comes the dew of tenderness

Softly adorning my hair

With the stars of light

There’s no turning back this time

I feel lots of movement in this poem. There is much happening in here, and to express the motion in the form of 'tumbleweeds' and sand across feet, scuttling scorpion of 'anguish' (that is some vivid illustration for emotional sting!). Nice progression from thirst to oasis, Lily. ~~ Diana

beneath these metaphors of mindfulness lie symbols of subconscious thought submerged in archetypes of the unconscious... while looming large on the horizon is the nascent nuance of eccentricity with a radiance of phosporescent phenomenology...

I enjoyed your rich and radiant foray into this highly allusive artformidable landscape... nicely done, Carolee

Knowing al that, Carol, still there isn't one thing to be done to keep from loving him. We have to, we must, find out for ourselves.
