A poem to honor the 2007 National League Central Division Champions, the Chicago Cubs, who went from the worst team in the division in 2006 to first place, this year. Good Luck in the Playoffs!!!!!!
|
The north side of Chicago and its storied franchise Can smile ‘neath the glory of hope-filled blue skies The Cubbies have secured their division’s crown And will bring the playoffs back to old Chi-town Their regular season had its highs and lows Nonetheless, the Cubs battled; from hardships, they rose Their season began with the Spring Training camps Now, the Cubs are the proud NL Central Champs.
With Lou, as their captain, the Cubbies set sail Their hearts and their minds certain they would prevail D-Lee and DeRosa, Ramirez and Floyd Showed strength that the other teams could not avoid Throughout this long season, the Cubs held their own Now, atop the Central, they sit all alone The divisional pennant will soon be unfurled But, the Cubs long to prove they’re the best in the World.
Once again, the Cubs have reached the postseason Their minds are determined; their hearts have a reason To rise from the shadows of their storied past And make every inning, better than the last As the Cubs chase greatness and their Series dream Generations of Cub fans stand behind the team Good luck to the Cubs; may your team persevere So, we can finally say that “Next Year is Here!”

Fantastic write Jill! You captured the magic of the cubbies and I always root for them from when I lived in Chi and followed all their games with Harry Carey announcing...Hope they make it all the way, it would be glorious!

A very good friend of mine who is a Cub fan wouldn't root for my Cards last year. I saw a couple of Cub fans at a game and said I would root for the Cubs. They said, "That's nice, but we wouldn't do it if the shoes were changed." I looked back and said, "Well, my the curse stay with you." Cubs and Cards were not meant to get along, I guess.

I've fallen out of love with baseball. I wonder if those guys would be good without all the drugs.
But this was a well written poem.
God Bless,
Lew
P.S. I was a Micky Mantle Fan. |

Texas Rangers didn't make it but o boy they finished up in a huge way: their last game of the season they won something like 18-2! WHEE! Those Texas bats were sure busy! |
