The reply to The Maiden's Vigil

The Sailor’s Return

Aye I’ve sailed this three-mast schooner

From the old blue nose shore

We’ve traveled the seven salt seas

For three long years or more

Taking strong lumber to Maui

Then picked up the black demon rum

The Jamaican girls were so pretty

But my hearts promised to only one

Rode out the gales around the Horn

Sat becalmed many long days

Half froze on the North Atlantic

Breaking ice from shrouds and stays

Now ‘tis home-bound we’re headed

Where I ne’er more will roam

I fancy a wife and some wee ones

Aye for me and my lassie a fine home

A yell comes down from the crow’s nest

I hear “Land Ho” ring from the sky

I wipe the brine from my face

And the small tear from my eye

I see a young maiden wave from the land’s end

‘Tis my true love holding her wee guiding light

I’ll marry that wee lass who gave me her heart

The sea will finally release me to her arms tonight…

Felix, you seem to know the ways of salts quite well. But you know the words that touch the heart equally well. A fine poem of love and hope renewed, at the land's end my friend. Peace and love, Jon Michael

Grrrrrrrrrrr.... go get her, Tiger!!! Love that scurvy, curvy tone to you voice in this thigh-slapping write, Pops. Hope the Priest is standing by - sweating, if he is! :))) You have such a natural ease with voicing according to your subject, Felix; I really get the sense of swash-buckling (... or unbuckling???!!!), the roll of the incoming waves and the clashing together of frothing, foaming tankards of celebratory ale in this one. Clever you! :)) Kutlass Kate xx

I can't do better than what all the rest herein did say,
Just tell that sailor not to give up the sea that day,
For he may find that later in life he will for it pray...e
