Sharing Hope
When once I told a troubled person, “Things will all work out.”
I was reprimanded by an acquaintance with,
“You shouldn’t give them false hope.”
I looked at her a bit unkindly and said,
“Hope is all they have right now. It helps them cope.”
Never deny hope to anyone
Don’t take away their main thread of life
Don’t demote what little faith they have
Because hope is the major wedge against strife.
When the road ahead looks heavy
And despair is the vehicle despite all
When there’s nothing left to grab onto
Hope alone will soften depression’s call
Deep in the reservoir of sadness and pain
When life has lost its zest and will
Where else shall one turn for help
Except through hope, that is ever present still.
So never deny hope to anyone,
Give them encouragement as best you can
Offer them positive views of faith
Of God’s love; something they’ll surely understand.
