Sharing Hope

This poem was inspired by all I've read about the Nashville flood and the destruction caused by storms in other locales.

Sharing Hope

When once I told a troubled person, “Things will all work out.”
I was reprimanded by an acquaintance with,
“You shouldn’t give them false hope.”
I looked at her a bit unkindly and said,
“Hope is all they have right now. It helps them cope.”

Never deny hope to anyone
Don’t take away their main thread of life
Don’t demote what little faith they have
Because hope is the major wedge against strife.

When the road ahead looks heavy
And despair is the vehicle despite all
When there’s nothing left to grab onto
Hope alone will soften depression’s call

Deep in the reservoir of sadness and pain
When life has lost its zest and will
Where else shall one turn for help
Except through hope, that is ever present still.

So never deny hope to anyone,
Give them encouragement as best you can
Offer them positive views of faith
Of God’s love; something they’ll surely understand.

Excellent poem and advise Jeanette. We all need something to hang on to and HOPE is one thing that urges us forward , so that we don't give up. It sure helps to keep me from getting so discouraged !..M

WONDERFUL AND WISE ADVICE...I AGREE BECAUSE IT IS SO EASY TO 'SPEAK' UNKIND OR DISCOURAGING WORDS TO OTHERS. TRUELY 'HOPE' IS SO NEEDED BY ALL AND AS YOU STATED...HOPE IS ALL THE WORLD HAS TODAY..AND...IT IS ALL THE WORLD NEEDS. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS YOU. LOVE,

Dear Jeanette, I agree with you, no one has the right to deprive someone of hope, as you mentionned:
So never deny hope to anyone,
Give them encouragement as best you can
Offer them positive views of faith
Of God’s love; something they’ll surely understand,

Love Emile

Wonderful write; read just a little bit ago that a lot of the Grand Ole Opry's artifacts were saved, and crews will be working hard to repair damage at the Grand Ole Opry House! Also, the Grand Ole Opry continues: until the Opry House is fixed, the Opry is holding their shows at Municipal Auditorium! Well done, Jeanettte, as always!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

I have been to the Opry once (1979); would LOVE to go again! :D
