Swords And Pistols
The Legend Of Anne Bonny
In Her Own Words

Part 1

By La Belle Rouge

Now I gives me life to the page
full of glory, guts and rage!

Across the years the tale be told
of forbidden love and stolen gold
Across the chasm that lies between
cold hard truth and mere imagining
me name still drifts on ancient wind
fiery essence of my mystique again
and while the muses play with minds
me pitiless place in history I finds
My seas was dark, waves was wild
the pirate queen, the siren’s child

Born in shame to a barrister bold
and his hussy housemaid so ‘tis told
The missus she up and left his side
The housemaid ‘nere became his bride
They hid me long as they could do
in boy’s britches and a boy’s cap too
but when I bloomed was no denying
to pass as a man no need in trying
In County Cork where I begun life
me hot temper caused many a strife

We sailed to Charlestown Caroline
Bought a plantation grand and fine
Me emerald eyes and long hair of fire
sparked many a rich man’s dark desire
Me mother died when I was but sixteen
I knifed a servant girl, was awful mean
When a young man me flower tried to take
his health and vigor he had to forsake
James Bonny only wanted me estate
but to marry a pirate I could not wait

Vivid. Transports one to both an historic and cruel social realm. And it is especially good that Anne Bonny can take her place among the privateers and other swashbucklers - she takes me o'er the bounding main!

... every time you write in a different style, I think it is my favourite Belle genre... until the next one! You make balladic rhyming verse seem so effortless, darlin, yet unique and refreshing at the same time. And your tale of Bonny Annie fair bristles with zest and intrigue which quickens the appetite for more: Penelope Cruz with (even bigger!) knobs on... :)) xx

Love the baroque verses to intrigue, mischief
and quite steamy tale o' the briny kind ~ Lady La Belle

a steamed up tale o' the briny kind
and a bosomy maiden thrown in to boot
'tis true the kind we men don't mind,
she's used to knives, but can she shoot?
Well penned, Poetess Of The Heart La Bell Rouge!

Be well and at peace with those whom you meet.

Hell, Amber, sounds like a full-fledged novel to me. You have it all, here, Belle. Upstairs-Downstairs and pirates and gut-gutting and . . . Write on . . .

Belle, I'm not familiar with the legend, but I agree with Amber, I'm more than ready to read more about it/her. Like this a bunch.

Thanks Dick

Belle, Sounds like the beginning of a trilogy to me...I love the language and rhythm of this poem, it's very entertaining to read. She is a hellion for sure, I can see and man what is she up to next???

Love this,
Peace, love and light,
