For Chapter 40 of MYSTERIOUS TRAILS OF AMERICAN FOLKLORE I discovered this old tale.

Roaming around the Keystone state
An evil looking beast does dwell
Stories abound both far and wide
Of this creature straight out of hell

It has been blamed for killing pets
As it travels across the state
The sightings have been numerous
About this beast that's filled with hate

Whatever this creature may be
I can't find a reason to doubt
It wouldn't hesitate to kill
Camping in Penn for me is out

The forests of PA are vast
This creature could hide anywhere
Yet, it chooses to show itself
When you travel through there....BEWARE

Never walk through the woods alone
You just don't know what you may see
If it has a craving for you
A favorite meal you might be

I lived for a while in West Virginia (that doesn't count?) Near the PA border. While I saw a lot of environmental meddling that could create some kind of mutations in the people (like hicks), I never saw any creatures like that in my whole time in the woods. However, I guess if I had seen them I wouldn't be here, right?

I'd feel pretty sorry for the beast if he took a bite of me....pickled jerky. Yum. Patrick
