Maritime Poet’s Song

Rain and fog is smothering the harbour

Bell buoys compete against fog horn’s blare

It’s somewhere between day and evening

Too late for coffee, still too early for beer

Prowling winds rattle lightly the window

Little beads of rain like a xylophone play

Umbrellas play reach for the sky stranger

In the Maritimes just another September day

Sitting in damp clothes becomes a habit

When you have no place special to go

Coffee wrapped in a cardboard container

As I stare at my screen’s pale empty glow

My mind digs deep for vague inspiration

Or for all those things I wish I could say

I think of you, my fingertips start dancing

My heart seems to enjoy leading the way

Soon words transpose into verse then song

Capturing indelible visions of your face

The weather is but an intangible backdrop

Love’s curtain rises, the gloom to erase…

I can feel the steam positively rising off those damp clothes now, Felix! Beautiful, lilting verses which give more than a caffeine lift to perk up the chilly heart and clear a foggy mind, lending music to those dancing fingers. One of your best atmospheric captures, I reckon - and there's been a few great ones! Love this! xx

this reminds me of a cold rainy windy fall day with clam chowder by the water. and posiibly having had too much coffee too! But, it does paint it's own picture of wishing for sun too.

Aw, It' never too late for coffee, man! You made me almost get a chill as I read your words which absolutely put me there at at the water's edge. I LOVE this line, "Little beads of rain like a xylophone play. "Yes! Yes! Yes! This reminds me of the times I was in San Francisco and the chill coming off the bay. You know the bay, the one that cat was sitting on . . . Heehee . . . Gotta love it and this poem . . .
