Green

There are hundreds of ways we could help to preserve our world for the generations to come. I stumbled onto one when it became necessary to replace my bathroom fixtures. My new toilet stool operates with less than half the water used by the old one and it flushes so much better.

GREEN

I’m not the greenest of green,
but I do try my best
and I’m certain I’m more green
than many of the rest.

Recently I had installed
a new bathroom stool.
Its saves lots of water
and I think that’s pretty cool.

My old one always took
several minutes to refill.
When this one’s all done,
the old one would be filling still.

It can’t possibly be using
more than a quart, or maybe two.
With all the water it saves,
it’s what everyone should do.

My water isn’t metered,
I have my own well,
so if it’s saving me money
I really can’t tell.

But, saving water
is simply the right thing to do
and certainly this new stool
could save you some water too.

Counting those gallons
isn’t something I have done,
but just think if this stool
were to be used by everyone.

Lets just say I flush,
possibly 10 times a day,
at a gallon each time
how much would I save?

Ten gallons each day
365 days each year,
thirty six hundred fifty gallons
might be reason to cheer.

And I have only one stool
there are many millions more.
How much would we save
if we were all keeping score?

And that’s only a start,
there’s so much more we can do,
I recycle all my cans & glass,
paper and cardboard too.

But, that’s a different soapbox,
for another day and time.
If I could get 100 to change stools
I’d be feeling pretty fine.

I have to say, I am bad, not the greenest by far, infact, I bet you could say I would get a ticket for abuse when it comes to recycling, and water use. (confessions of the wasteful potter?) thanks for sharing. Karen

I remeber in the 70s first going "green" by putting a couple of bricks in my toilet tank so as not to interfere with the rest of the mechanical fixtures. I was not metered either so I do not know if I saved any water or not...I just assumed I did. Keep GREEN my friend.

We're "green" in our household, Richard.....water saving toilet, recycling, sorting wet & dry garbage, etc. Although what we're doing won't make a dent in the environmental problems of the planet....if we all did it what a difference we could make! Enjoyed your poem!

The solution to pollution is dilution. Low water toilets concentrate waste and often require additional flushes, but da law is da law. Timely work sir. Patrick

Well done (on both counts).

Interesting and lively. We have low water toilets that were mandated when we moved into this house. I have to say we flush more now than ever before.

Be always safe,
Karen

I hear it. Some famous movie star, or rock star, is there a difference anymore? I remember, it was Sheryl Crow. But she went on one of the talk shows and told Americans to just use one square of toilet tissue to clean ourselves. Yep. Said that with a straight face. Methinks humans are deluding ourselves if we think we can destroy this planet we live on.

A poem about your toilet ..... who would have come up with that but you! I hope people 'hear' the message.
