The title got me to thinking about the Frank Sinatra song, “It Was a Very Good Year.” But then as I read your poem, I felt a sense of regret. My college relationships were all failures so I can relate.

| So many of us have starred in that story. I would like to give you such a hug because I feel the pain in those words, even as I sense a certain numbness or resignation. I applaud your ability to see his leaving as a positive. The rather dry way you tell your story, accentuates the emotional trauma, I believe, which is a very effective style. Cudos. Be well, Kathy |
