A Rose For Sleeping Beauty

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A ROSE FOR SLEEPING BEAUTY
she slept so soundly, on the funeral bier
where she had resolved to sacrifice herself
for the pleasure of many, who thought
they had every right to demand her life
her form gracefully aged but grew
only more attractive in its soft maturity
her long dark hair was scented of magnolias
and braided with leather laces of hidden sorrow
small threads of precious silver began
to weave paths through its coffee colored silk
she slept long, for waking would be sorrowful
her volcanic desires slumbering peacefully
they were yet to be awakened or acknowledged
with a tender, powerful kiss of lover’s fire
she will never sleep again, never again
can she deny the force of her unleashed passions
a rose for a sleeping beauty he brings
and places it gently into her childlike hand
as he kisses her sweet lips and warm heart awake
“waken to all that you are,” he whispers
“open your eyes of pale fire to life and love
leave behind the funeral bier of others' making
inhale love’s fragrance and exhale it’s beauty”
a rose he gives to a sleeping beauty awakened
a rose to lovingly caress her waking senses......
no time for sleepwalking yet
