Life Begins at 55

A farewell to a good friend - John

If life begins at 55 my friend,
Than it looks like your life has just begun
When you retire and look in the mirror
at this place for one last time.

And as you leave this dusty place, you'll
find new adventures every day.   But don't
forget us working stiffs, who still have many
years of this.

Remember us fondly as you walk out that
door, and looking all around like the raven
crowing, "Nevermore"

But you and I have a little more than the rest.
Remember when you made me mad and I hit you on the head?
We carpooled together for many years, we argued, laughed,
and there were sometimes tears.
We had some good and bad times through the years.

So now my friend I will bid you adieu.   And I hope in your
new life, good things happen in whatever you do.  All your
'get rich quick' schemes, may no longer be just a dream.

Good luck John, and may the Lord guide and keep you always.

Your carpool bud, Mary

A FINE SEND OFF FOR ONE WHO SEEMS TO BE A GOOD PERSON, WHOM YOU LEARNED OVER THE YEARS TO CALL 'FRIEND'. ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER...SO THEY SAY(SMILE). THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Mary, you are a friend to be desired as well as admired - how perfectly wonderful of you to wish your friend the best in his new life of retirement or whatever - friendships should not end with parting from the daily contact at our place of employment - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael

So thoughtful of you! We often forget that when we leave people at work, sometimes they miss us a great deal. You have cemented a friendship that will continue for the rest of your life.

The place we are employed and the people we work with do become like a second home and family to us over time. I remember when I realized that I would not be going back to my office again as an employee what a sense of loss I felt...

As usual, I like your poems and thoughts. I'm sure that "hit in the head" was more playful than hurtful .... hope you are able to maintain that friendship in the future. Retiring is a bitter sweet event ... you know you'll miss the friends you have had for years .... yet you know there are bright adventures waiting to be enjoyed.

Mary! So violent! I never would have thought it. Hah! I'm sure John was happy you thought enough of him to send him off in this manner.
