“Offshore Drilling is Completely Safe.”

Many of Our Politicians Today

Another horrific oil spill, just this past week

Over 400,000 gallons of thick oil were spilled

Our Gulf Coast was already drenched in fuel oil

Yet with their proclamations, our leaders are thrilled

When Hurricane Katrina had roared into the Gulf Coast

Many of our leaders also claimed that no oil had spilled out

But we soon found thousands of left behind pets covered in it

Environmental hazards in offshore drilling exist without a doubt

This latest spill on the Gulf Coast has already affected wildlife

And it is now impacting our precious wetlands on the Gulf Coast

We already have the world’s largest oceanic Dead Zone in this area

“But offshore drilling is completely safe!” our so called leaders boast

Before you jump on the ‘Lift the Moratorium on Offshore Drilling’ crusade

Please think about the dire consequences for our California and Florida coasts

And think about your own pets, and seals and shorebirds, covered in life-ending oil

Offshore Drilling will never be completely safe, despite our politicians’ many lame boasts

Pursuing Alternative Energy Solutions,

Is The Only Way Out of This Oil Quagmire;

Even With More & More Horrific Offshore Drilling,

Our Fuel Costs Will Continue To Rise, Higher and Higher

“Don't let some hell bent heart,

Leave you bitter;

When you come close to selling out,

Reconsider.

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance,

I hope you dance.”

Lee Ann Womack,

I Hope You Dance

You are so right. They are screaming at us that off shor4e drilling is so safe but the evidence and truth of the matter is quite the opposite. Excellent write. Liz

That is just terrible. I think the goverment needs to spend its time finding and alternative energy source instead of drilling for oil. What this country and world needs right now is for drilling to stop.

Could not agree with you more. Haven't enough lies been spread as to how SAFE off shore drilling is?? What of the foreign countries that are drilling, what damage will and have they caused? Guess common sense has been sold off, you think? All of our precious, innocent animals pay the price for mankind's greed....

Be always safe,
Karen

The ones that claim no oil spilled should be taken there - at THEIR expense - and dipped in the no oil spilled. Sadness, once again - powerfully penned, I didn't know. 'Course, does the media EVER report the truth? Only if enough people get pissed off ...

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

I think you should read Toms latest, it would solve the problem, let me put it this way, if a gallon of shit, flushed out in front of your door, everytime you used the toilet, you soon change your habit, the same with the oil, a dozen dead smelly ducks in the back of every senators cadillac, everytime they use it etc..... it's disgusting, but when people don't relate, because, it does not impact them immediate, or somehow, until then it's just an abstraction to them, but please keep on writing, eventually numbers will make a difference! Bless You Ed! Jasmin Horst

So utterly sad and despicable, I think someone should put forth a law that will require all board members and executives of major oil companies and ships carrying them should not only be liable for fines but should have to personally work in the cleanup of them...physically. I wonder how fast they would find the extra money to make the ships spillproof and as Georg said the alternatives are here but when is the gov't going to start making the prices affordable to all.

Ed, the alternatives are already here, just up to grab and start using it. The problem is that we are been strangled by oil consortiums and on the take politicians, corruption is so deep and rotten that we can't smell it anymore because in a long time we were so overwelmed by the stench that we don't notice anymore.
Internal combustion wit any derivate from oil is passè, and has been for the last 35 years, since Standard Oil purchased the patent for hydrogen driven motors and turbines buried it.
You think that we need to burn fossil hydrocarbons? WRONG! they need to do it to get another buck.
Drilling offshore is paramount to killing millions of buffalo just for the skin. That that brough hunger and pandemics wasn't a question, the question always is "how much? in dollars I mean"

Never seen a spill in person but have seen many videos of them. If our government doesn't care what happens to the wolves & all other animals, they certainly will turn a blind eye to oil spills as well...Ed

ED - WELL SAID!

It is bad enough that the existing offshore rigs cause problems, but this one had to be AVOIDABLE - A BARGE CRASHED INTO A TANKER in the MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI - DON'T THESE IDIOTS KNOW HOW TO PILOT A BOAT?

OR LIKE THE VALDEZ, WAS THE CAPTAIN HIGH OR DRUNK?"

Can't wait until the details come out - instead of hanging the rat-bastard, they'll probably give him a medal and promote him to CEO of EXXON, or whatever other greedy corp he works for!

Was it FOGGY? or Not? Traffic of such huge quantities of oil should be BANNED from even entering our rivers and ports! Sure, it would cost more to transport smaller quantities by TRUCK, on land - BUT - WHAT WILL THE CLEAN-UP OF THE SPILL COST? HOW MANY MILLIONS? HOW MANY DEATHS OF WILDLIFE AND FISH?

I WISH I HAD THAT MAGIC WAND !!! Peace, Tom.
