The Cleansing

Ever visit the beach in early spring???? It's amazing....

It’s quiet here, just me and my soul…
And the gentle hiss of sapphire ripples
Creeping onto the icy shore nearby!
There’s a briny breeze kissing my cheeks,
Warm sunshine barely keeping the chill at bay!
The shore in springtime, only for those
Who know what solace comes from this place!
Seagulls watch me from high above,
Curiosity peaked at the sole figure
Sitting there on the deserted beach.
Sinking into my warm woollen coat,
Tugging my scarf around my face
I exhale a deep cleansing breath!
Exposed now, heart and soul naked
My burdens lay at my feet!
And when it is time to go,
I will leave them here,
And the tide will wash them away!

I was raised on the coast of Virginia and the ocean holds a special place in my life. I went there when I was troubled and it was as if the tides washed everything away with the soothing sounds of the waves. I can relate to this. Wonderful write!

Lovliest spot to cleanse and refresh. Beautiful walk
on the shore in spring. Thank you for the sense
of peace and the essence of heart and soul.

A time at a lonely beach can be very refreshing. Wish I could get to in Nova Scotia shore. All we have here is dirty sand with whatever washed up lately.

The seascape never grows old and poetic thoughts flourish, especially this time of year it seems. I especially took pleasure in the last four lines.

Anna,
You really capture that feeling of majesty one feels at the beach...the renewal and new beginnings. Well done.

You don't see the sea, you feel it within, it is hitting your soul, as if the waves speak to you right in to the depth of your soul. As if when the tide comes crashing in you give it your burdens as it takes them back with the tide and drowns them. Perfectly constructed.

I bask in the solitude of nature also, and how beautiful the way you capture it in your poetry. I especially love the final stanza of this poem!

Nothing beats a deserted beach for reflection, healing, and cleansing. Rain or shine. Enjoyed this. Patrick

Ah so true. The beach is a special place. Mountain dust beneath your feet, crunchy sand...

I live a distance from the ocean and do not go there as often as I should, but do understand the sense of peace and relaxation one... you in particular, Anna, my friend, feels when warm in your woollen coat with the heat of your breath further warming your cheeks you sit watching the never ending movement of waves and water.
Your friend, Mark

I think you have captured an aspect of the ocean that keeps people going back there: "Exposed now, heart and soul naked" That so fully describes how the vast openness of the ocean shore frees us. It has that affect on people. You said it in those words. Great ~~ Diana

I like the cleansing you are so adroit at, Anna. It is a wonderful feeling to wash your burdens away with the outgoing tide.
