"But words are things, and a small drop of ink,
Falling, like dew, upon a thought, produces
That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think." ~Lord Byron~

  Drop of Ink

Inspiring are the thoughts of men

To another as they lend

Thoughts for which they all can pen

Methodically all soon attend

For the wheels will turn and steep

Of simple word that drop of ink

Branching out and sweeping deep

Discoveries soon upon the brink

Their essay that will never end

Penned again and then again

As the schooner it doth wend

Forever on a course append

Vast it be the minds of men

For like the watchmen they attend

Judgments’ made and wistful thoughts

Philosophers of life hath sought

Maze of minds we all are lent

Tarry not young gentlemen

See all that’s given in its whole

Judge not a creature to behold

See with equal eye to learn

With drop of ink for those concerned

To pen discoveries within hand

Creates more minds in which to span

Spring forth your prose most lyrically

With drop of ink so carefully

It waters minds in which to grow

As raindrops on the grass will flow

This is a very good write, and to tell a story starts in the mind and finds its way to a paper.

Once that drop of ink starts flowing it's interesting to see the pattern it makes and how it ends. I always hated to blot it!

Love ya!

A beautifully inspired piece. My thoughts go out to all the people who have great philosophical thoughts and never put them to paper. How many great ideas were lost?

"It waters minds in which to grow
As raindrops on the grass will flow", and a poem in its entirety too, indeed, as for me, it has been well penned. A fine job, The Lily!

Metaphor and double entendre abound. Of special note: your last stanza, suggesting that even the smallest vessel of movement has potential.

As the drop of ink spreads into the thoughts and ideas of others who read the meanderings and assayers of the written word, a light will, and does, go on inside the readers silent shadowed crevasses. As he thinks what the drop of ink has made him reveal to himself he, too, begins to write, using the drop of ink as a springboard for ideas. So, dear Carol, that drop of ink never dries and never dies, it is kept alive by many hands as they, too are inspired to write something the drop of ink inspired.

This Drop of Ink is not just a drop it's a pearl.
Whatever you write about turns into a beautiful pearl.

Thanks for this beautiful treasure Carolee
