Seashells, are part of the Earth's shoreline, they just keep on coming back.

Seashells

by Amber "V" Moonstone

May 3, 2009

Seashells found on early morning walk
picked up to be saved by children
delighted in the colors and textures
they are  a child's treasure.

Do they really know why they are there?
My guess is probably not.
Some sea creature has lost it's home
and lies forever in the sea.

We treasure a conch shell
for it keeps the sound of the ocean
within an ear's shot,
or  it can become a cameo or a horn.

A large clamshell is a delight,
Sometimes multicolored,
Sometimes just white.
A resting place for lovely jewelry.

Seashells are a reminder
of our day at the shoreline,
frolicking in the ocean,
feeling carefree and happy!

Sometimes a simple treasure,
brings so much pleasure,
Reminding us of the many beautiful
ways our Mother Earth takes care of us!

Author's Note:  I Dedicate this poem to my friend's Grand-daughter, Summer,  she was the inspiration for this poem!

You are so right, a trip to the beach and picking up sea shells, beach rocks and driftwood has always been my favorite thing to do when my daughter was little and now I still love doing it with my grandchildren. Life cycles from the sea forever.

Faantastic poem Amber! I love seashells, and miss collecting them. I have one from New Zealand swirls upward like a pyramid with prfectly placed lines of brown dots. You'd never believe it was a shell. Thanks for reminding me of former pleasures;-)

I love this light and carefree poem. How many of us have wandered along beaches looking for "pretty" seashells? I've certainly collected my share. Very nice write, Amber.
